T-shirt designs can be made at home with a little effort and
enthusiasm. While there are various methods of making a T-shirt design,
here we will concentrate on some of the simplest ways to prepare a DIY
T-shirt motif at home with the simplest of materials.
T-shirts may be designed at home through a simple printing process and
heat transfer. It can also be done through stencilling or screen
printing method. Hand drawn T-shirts may also serve as a great item of
gift.
 Make your own T-shirt
Bored of wearing the same T-shirts bearing some advertisement or logo
of some concern you might not be even distantly associated to? Well
here's your quick guide to design your own unique T-shirt at home. All
you need to do is just give it a try. Home made transfer T-shirts
While going in for a transfer print you need to decide on the colour
of the T-shirt first. A dark colour T-shirt requires a dark transfer
paper and a light coloured T-shirt needs a light coloured paper.
- Select a design from the web or your own picture gallery
according to your preference or purpose.
- You could also select some unique and appealing text to match
the design. Bold and clear texts render visibility, as simple clear
designs are more durable and eye catching.
- Adjust the image according to your requirement by cropping and
flipping it to ensure that it is apt for being transferred.
- Before printing the image on the dull side of a transfer paper,
try a print preview on some scrap piece of paper to check its
perfection.
- Print the image on the transfer paper and put it upside down on
the T-shirt.
- Place a hard cut board inside the washed T-shirt and iron evenly
over the transfer paper to transfer the image on the T-shirt.
- Peeling off the transfer paper reveals the image.
- Now, put it on and groove in style.
Screen-printing T-shirts at home
- To screen print a design on T-shirt, make a selection of
designs and edit it with an image editor to fit into the
embroidery loop.
- Having done so print the image on a blank paper.
- Tightly spread a curtain over the embroidery loop, while
trimming the extra material.
- Lightly trace the image on the screen from the paper with
fine strokes. Self-adhesive papers could also be used for easy
tracing.
- Next apply the Mod Podge evenly over the portions that are
not to be printed. Let it dry and brush the full screen with
thin watercolour paint.
- Place the T-shirt on a hard and flat base while putting a
cardboard inside it to prevent leakage of colour.
- Finally, put the screen on the T-shirt and blot ink over the
image with a sponge brush. Pulling over the screen shows the
actual image on the T-shirt.
- Dry overnight and wash it to attain a perfect fit.
With a little practice you can design your own T-shirts at
home or gift it to your loved ones as a token of remembrance.
